As a technical leader in the product development of cutting edge robots, you will ensure that the integrated performance of the product meets or exceeds the needs and expectation of the customer. You will lead the team to make optimum trades of technology, functionality, architecture and defining the best technical path forward. You will work in tight coordination with Program Management, Product Management, Operations and team leadership. As the Principal Quality Engineer, supports major NPI programs either directly, or through Senior Leads, of product platforms from cradle to grave within iRobot, working across competencies and providing quality expertise and leadership. Senior Mechanical Engineer (iRobot Corporation, Bedford, MA)
Contribute to a program team driving for performance and quality while balancing human factors. Translate product requirements into mechanical subsystem specifications and performance metrics, and establish plans for execution. Identify, manage, and mitigate product and technical risks. Conduct research and analysis, generating innovative technical and interpersonal solutions in creating a product that meets functional and aesthetic requirements. Generate creative design solutions and proven problem solving capabilities. Generate mechanical layouts and detailed part design using 3-D CAD and analysis tools. Provide critical feedback in detailed mechanical and mechanism design, product definition, systems test and data analysis. Verify and validate design solutions utilizing rapid prototyping and conventional prototyping methodologies (hands-on). Integrate seamlessly across business disciplines: quality assurance, systems engineering, product management, industrial design and product marketing throughout product life cycle. Train and mentor other engineers in the best practices and fundamentals of engineering.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus 5 years of experience performing and reviewing mechanical design. Must also have the following: 3 years of experience working in Consumer Electro-Mechanical Products Industry; 2 years of experience working with injection molded plastics parts and performing mechanical systems design; any experience in applying design fundamentals and first principles analytical and product definition methods; any experience performing dimensional assembly variation and control through tolerance analysis and process control; any experience using 3D CAD (Pro-E/Creo), with Prototype design; any experience performing design integration with industrial design, user experience, and ergonomics.

As a part of the Braava and Braavajet team, you will work under guidance of the Lead Test Engineer to develop and document test methods, procedures, and results that have cross functional and/or cross product applicability. You will also support development of risk driven test plans that align with the program schedule, goals, and budget. You may lead portions of the execution of these test plans. Your focus will be new product development as well as adapting new technologies to our Braava and Braavajet products. Your responsibilities include documenting and tracking system test information, issues, results, and statuses for the areas of the design that you are assigned. You should possess sufficient technical depth to troubleshoot complex cross functional problems and document findings.
