  • Summary

    iRobot is looking for an established Network Engineer to joing the Network team! The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for the overall design, acquisition, testing, implementation and maintenance of the iRobot network, datacenter(s) and telecommunications equipment and software configuration changes.

    • Breadth of Scope: Subject Matter Expert (SME) in LAN/WAN/WiFi/SDWAN, storage, virtualization, and network security. Proficiency in cross-platform issues and design
    • Focus Areas: Design and troubleshooting for iRobot projects as well as complex problems and cross-platform issues; Troubleshooting complex problems for other areas; Enhancements, updates, patches and upgrades; Developing expertise in other technologies.

    Essential Functions/ Job Duties

    • Installed Base: Leads the implementation of enhancements, updates, upgrades and patches to ensure equipment is preventively maintained, running properly and protected from bugs and security threats. Ensures users are kept informed of changes on a timely basis. Develops and executes test plans to ensure updates are fully tested before going live. Reviews test plans for appropriateness and thoroughness. Reviews test results and spot checks in key areas/scenarios with a focus on risk reduction. Coordinates test plans and execution between users and processes.
    • Performance Optimization: Monitors and reports on processes, uptime, performance, utilization and capacity of technologies. Collects and analyzes key performance metrics of technologies in order to recommend technology or process improvements.
    • Backups: Executes and monitors equipment backups to ensure data and applications are safeguarded and can be restored to establish normal operation after an incident or disaster.
    • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoots the most complex issues for Network and complex issues for other areas. Provides or obtains their timely resolution. Analyzes failures, identifies root cause and implements and documents short and long-term corrective actions.
    • Procurement: Leads efforts to select and procure new technologies in SME areas. Monitors infrastructure related licensing and related maintenance and support contracts. Including coordinating support from 3rd party service providers.
    • Transition & Implementation: Writes and maintains technical documentation, policies and procedures related to networking and infrastructure and updates as necessary. Confirms user documentation is sufficient for process. In area of expertise, provides training and direction to IT staff so that they may effectively perform their daily activities related to IT infrastructure.
    • Compliance, Information Security and Confidentiality: Adheres to company polices and industry standards on compliance, information security and confidentiality. Conveys and alerts users and IT staff of policies to prompt their adherence. Advises and interprets policies to ensure company compliance.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identifies, documents and presents improvements to IT processes. Drives the change and measures the results. Monitors emerging technology developments and identifies opportunities for improvement.

    Qualifications

    • Expert wireless troubleshooting, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac w1- w2/ax, DCA, TPC, CleanAir, 802.11X PEAP, converged cisco wireless AIROS, Meraki and Prime.
    • Extensive knowledge of switching technologies (802.1Q, STP, RSTP, PVST+, MST)
    • Extensive knowledge of routing technologies (STATIC, OSPF BGP)
    • Extensive knowledge of Cisco IOS, NX-OS, 9K Cores and Catalyst Switches
    • Extensive knowledge of firewall concepts (hardware-agnostic) ACL, NAT, Proxy-ARP, DMZ, site-to-site VPN, Remote VPN client access.
    • Knowledge of load balancing technologies
    • Knowledge of IPv6
    • Knowledge of CBQoS, end-to-end QoS
    • Knowledge of SD-WAN concepts, SilverPeak is a plus
    • Experience with the use of protocol analyzers, netflow and network test equipment, e.g. wireshark, air magnet, airwatch.
    • Experience and a strong working knowledge of network monitoring tools and remote administration, SolarWinds Orion is a plus
    • Knowledge of VoIP technologies, SIP, H323, Audio Codes experience is a plus
    • Knowledge of SAN fabric, zoning, smartzoning, MDS experience is a plus
    • Proficiency with administration and support of all Microsoft, Apple and Linux operating systems
    • Experience with clustering, SAN technologies and support of high availability 24X7
    • Creative problem-solving skills
    • Strong customer support, time management and IT project management skills
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex and detailed concepts to others
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision

     

     

    Work Environment

    • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
    • Assignments require extensive work using a computer.
    • Responsibilities require evening and Maintenance weekend work (24/7 on-call pager duty).
    • Ability to squat, bend and lift up to 75 pounds
    • Approximately 10% travel required.

     

    Requirements

    Education: BS/BA in computer science, information technology or equivalent experience

    Certifications: CCNP/CCDP or equivalent experience

    Experience: 7+ years in related field
