  • Summary

    The Senior Data Applications Engineer will enhance, mature, and support the iRobot Enabling Applications team for the Product Service areas of business. In this role you will help design, build, scale, and support the current iRobot custom applications that enable robot processing functions. You will work closely with the Platform Managers to dictate application design requirements, plan for database integrations and data controls, add delivery capacity for existing and upcoming projects, and support existing production environments. Key stakeholder will be Software Engineering, IT Architecture, Information Security, Customer Care and Quality. The role will lend depth with a multifaceted programming language background, knowledge in AWS Services, and web programming.


    This position is part of iRobot’s Information Technology department, a core engineer for Product Services and reports to the Manger, Enabling Applications. 


    The role requires a strong self-starter with unique blend of technical skills, who understands and is experienced in web-based applications. The end goal will be to have an individual who is an integral team member responsible for successful integrations of Product Service Applications.

    Essential Functions/ Job Duties

    • Be part of engineering for Enabling Applications that enables customer care, distribution partners, and manufactures to engage with robots.
    • Design, develop, maintain and improve:
      • software tools used to test and diagnose robot hardware, and to track repairs – including new robots.
      • back-end reporting and integration with data warehousing projects.
    • Perform triage and root cause analysis for production related issues.
    • Work with Information Security to ensure best practices and iRobot requirements are met.
    • All other tasks delegated by the Manager.


    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
    • 7+ years development experience with multiple languages and frameworks
    • Rich programming language background – Python, Ruby, Linux Shell Scripting, JAVA, SQL, C, C++
    • Knowledgeable in AWS Services such as EC2, ElasticBeanStalk, Lambda, ApiGateway, DynamoDB, IAM, SNS, CloudFront, CloudFormation.
    • CI/CD Tools – Jenkins, Docker, Gradle, Maven, Makefile, NPM, Puppet, BitBucket GIT (Source Control)
    • Web programming – JavaScript, HTML, XML, CSS, JSON.
    • Experience with frameworks – REST Web Services, NodeJS, HTTP Principles, J2EE, Hadoop, etc.
    • Software Development Lifecycle – Agile (Jira, Confluence)
    • Experience with network communications and data/access security procedures.
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
    • Strong analytical and communication skills.
