    We're looking for Senior Mechanical Engineer focused on engineering directly with the China operations and manufacturing teams and US based engineering teams. You have expertise in high-volume consumer electronics, plastics design, engineering analysis, and global manufacturing. You will be responsible for supporting existing consumer robotic platforms in platform advancement, root cause evaluation and product improvements.

    Essential Functions/ Job Duties

    • Analyze, research, and solve tightly constrained technical issues while meeting functional and aesthetic requirements
    • Develop innovative, solutions that are manufacturable, competitive, and robust
    • Perform root cause analysis for design, manufacturing, or operations issues in the product using six-sigma, and relentless root cause evaluation tools (fish bone analysis, FMEA, 5-whys)
    • Critically assess detailed mechanical designs, product definition, systems test and data analysis
    • Verify and validate design solutions utilizing rapid prototyping and conventional prototyping methodologies
    • Generate mechanical layouts and detailed part design using 3-D CAD (PTC Creo) and analysis tools
    • Ensure design documentation is complete and is accurate to final manufactured product using PTC Windchill PDM (Product Data Management)
    • Follow iRobot drawing standards and Tolerance Stack Analysis to generate engineering drawings with vendor capable tolerances to ensure desired assembly and functional performance
    • Provide on-site support to China contract manufacturers for US based design engineering teams
    • Initiate and process engineering change requests to resolve deficiencies in designs, reduce costs, and improve performance
    • Identify, manage, and mitigate product and technical risks
    • Integrate across systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, operations engineering, quality engineering, product management, and industrial design


    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Minimum 8 years experience in mechanical design (5 years experience in injection molded plastics part and mechanical systems design, preferred)
    • Strong design fundamentals and first principles analytical and product definition methods
    • Strong CAD skillset (Pro-E/Creo, preferred)
    • Strong English and communications skills
    • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills
    • Product Data Management familiarization, model-driven BOM  (PTC Windchill, preferred)
    • Finite element analysis familiarization preferred
    • Familiarization with risk ranking and risk management tools (DFMEA, RRCA, Six Sigma, preferred)
    • Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, and Serviceability
    • Ability to obtain US visa and to travel to US approximately 3 times per year, 2-3 weeks per trip
    • Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
