  • Summary

    We're seeking a Principal CAD Designer to support our sustaining team and released products.  This individual will be responsible for working on a variety of CAD and design related tasks by working directly with engineering.  Interactions with domestic and over-seas engineering, operations, program management, and product marketing may be required.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and success in Creo modeling/drafting, tolerance analysis, GD&T, ASME Y14.5, and Windchill PDM.

    Essential Functions/ Job Duties

    Work directly with US based engineering team to provide mechanical layouts and detailed part design, creating and/or updating 3D CAD models and associated 2D drawings using CREO
    Follow iRobot drawing standards to generate appropriately dimensioned 2D drawings
    Ensure that all design documentation is complete, accurately reflects final manufactured product, and is stored in a well-structured manner in Windchill PDM
    Maintain and update bills of material
    Assist in the procurement of prototypes for initial design verification
    Follow standard practices, procedures and workflows within iRobot’s business process

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum 10 years 3D CAD experience, preferably including CREO 3.0
    • Associate degree in CAD Technology or equivalent experience in a technical field
    • Previously worked within a product data management system, preferably with Windchill
    • Design experience for high volume, injection molded plastic components
    • 3D CAD experience with complex surface models
    • Understanding of basic GD&T
    • High level of attention to detail
    • Proven ability to work concurrent projects
    • Must have above average written and verbal English language skills
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

     

    Desired Qualifications: 

    • Previous experience working with US based engineers
    • Small mechanism design, especially gears, bearings, wheels, linkages, etc.
    • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100
    • Experience with rapid prototyping methods
    • Experience designing products for automated assembly
    • Experience with tolerance analysis
    • Experience with GD&T
