Summary

We're looking for a Sourcing & Costing Manager responsible for leveraging company-wide opportunities and negotiating procurement initiatives. You will lead and develop category strategies with long-term goals and visions and ensure that Contract Manufacturers provide us the competitive costs and reliable supply chain to meet iRobot’s volume, cost and quality requirements.

 

In this role, you will manage Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and a portfolio of commodities to optimize the supply base and deliver financial benefit from supply chain improvements and strategic initiatives. You will work closely with engineering on costing for the new product developments. You will also work with CMs for continuous cost reduction opportunities for the on-going products. You will successfully be able to negotiate tactically with CMs and suppliers to drive the best results for iRobot. You will also possess the ability to think strategically and operate independently and able to inspire trust.

Essential Functions/ Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers. Maintain and grow relationships with iRobot’s critical supply base in the region.
  • Constantly seeks opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and drive for the implementation for those costs.
  • Negotiate with contract manufacturers on costs including materials, labor and manufacturing costs;
  • Continue negotiating on the annual cost reduction with contract manufacturers and key component vendors.
  • Work closely with engineering for new production introduction (NPI) on cost management, work out should-cost for a new product and involve in the cost targeting setting. Work closely to achieve the cost targets for new programs.
  • Advanced Development teams to identify, qualify and components from existing and new suppliers both locally and internationally.
  • Conducts market research, evaluation and selection of new and current technologies.

Qualifications

  • A degree in engineering or business management
  • Experience in electronic products manufacturing industry.
  • Strong business acumen is a must as you will look for all aspects for the best benefits and interests for iRobot.
  • Measurable accomplishments and experience in a strategic procurement role, including the contract negotiations, cost reductions, supplier selection, and supplier management. 
  • Extensive international procurement experience preferred / domestic and international sourcing.
  • Extensive experience in working with multi-national companies, engineering and operations team preferred.
  • Extensive experience in electronic products manufacturing industry, good knowledge in factory operations, supply chain management, contract manufacturing operations.
  • Possesses vision of entire business need, and have commitment to meet short-term requirements while working to long-term objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to translate technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications.  Produces clear documentation and reports to all audiences.
  • Strong business and legal acumen, especially in China and Hong Kong – seasoned professional required, capable of performing with minimum supervision.
  • Positive and energetic team player with strong cross-functional team experience.
  • Strong analytical problem solving aptitude.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, finance, operations or related field with 10-years of purchasing and procurement experience. 
  • Must be willing to travel internationally and domestically about 25% of the time.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese & English
