Summary

iRobot is in search of a Senior Costing Manager.  The Senior Costing Manager is responsible for managing Cost of Goods (COGS) from component through Finished Goods level by negotiating with the Contract Manufacturing.  This will include analysis at a component and system level with consideration for supply chain and in collaboration with the design engineering team.  This position will also lead and develop opportunities for improved cost visibility in the early phases of the product life cycle, ensure that Contract Manufacturers provide us the competitive costs and reliable supply chain to meet iRobot’s volume, cost and quality requirements.

 

In this role you will manage Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and a portfolio of commodities to optimize the supply base and deliver financial benefit from supply chain improvements and strategic initiatives. You will work closely with engineering on costing for the new product developments. You will also work with CMs for continuous cost reduction opportunities for the on-going products.

 

 

This is an exciting, dynamic role in which you will work across all the departments in iRobot and be looked to as an expert to assess design to cost efforts and recommend approaches to achieve cost targets.

 

An ideal candidate will have a technical and/or business degree, and experience in Operations cost and financial analysis.   Strong business acumen is a must as you will be expected to establish a COGS roadmap that is in alignment with the Business goals. Ideal candidate will be able to negotiate tactically with CMs and suppliers to drive the best results for iRobot. You will also possess the ability to think strategically and operate independently.  He/she will be able to inspire trust.

 

Essential Functions/ Job Duties

  • Constantly seeks opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction with in-depth analysis by component and alternatives.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and drive for the implementation for those costs.
  • Negotiate with contract manufacturers on costs including materials, labor and manufacturing costs;
  • Continue negotiating on the annual cost reduction with contract manufacturers and key component vendors.
  • Work closely with engineering for new production introduction (NPI) on cost management, work out should-cost for a new product and involve in the cost targeting setting. Work closely to achieve the cost targets for new programs.
  • Manage COGs at a SKU, Component level and provide analysis to drive profitability
  • Lead the Cost negotiation efforts for iRobot CMs and Suppliers
  • Analyze Cost changes as related to ECN/ECR changes and provide impact of changes on total cost of Sales.
  • Provide leadership guidance around cost and price control and drive cost alignment across iRobot Products
  • Develop and manage improved processes for iRobot Component/assembly costing
  • Act as focal point for all iRobot component and Assembly costs (material and transformation)
  • Manage all material cost changes, and assure all changes are implemented per appropriate effectivity time frames
  • Assure all iRobot costs are reflected in all Factory / CM pricing
  • Track/report quarterly cost reductions - forecasted and actual / Track historical and future cost structures
  • Manage pricing issues with CM providers
  • Manage iRobot PO costs and assure accuracy
  • Develop / maintain Component/ Assembly Cost Master tool, utilize and develop existing tools
  • Track and maintain a complete listing of all pricing for each Manufacturing site, and Product Line
  • Actively Interface with the supply base as required insuring iRobot price availability
  • Obtain supplier quotations from EMS /Supply chain / iRobot to assure pricing validity

Qualifications

  • Measurable accomplishments and experience in a strategic procurement role, including the contract negotiations, cost reductions, supplier selection, and supplier management. 
  • Extensive international negotiation experience preferred / domestic and international sourcing.
  • Extensive experience in working with multi-national companies, engineering and operations team preferred.
  • Extensive experience in electronic products manufacturing industry, good knowledge in factory operations, supply chain management, contract manufacturing operations.
  • Possesses vision of entire business need, and have commitment to meet short-term requirements while working to long-term objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to translate technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications.  Produces clear documentation and reports to all audiences.
  • Strong business and legal acumen, especially in China and Hong Kong – seasoned professional required, capable of performing with minimum supervision.
  • Positive and energetic team player with strong cross-functional team experience.
  • Strong analytical problem solving aptitude.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, finance, operations or related field with 10-years of purchasing and costing management experience. 
  • Must be willing to travel internationally and domestically about 25% of the time.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
